My routine unravels during this liminal space between Christmas and New Year’s.
I’m usually up at 6:30, making coffee, getting my girls off to school, sitting down to my desk at 7:30, breaking for toast mid-morning, checking my calendar, anticipating.
These days, I wake after eight, make two pots of coffee, read all morning, exercise midday for as long as I like, take meandering walks with the dog. I don’t rush. I don’t keep a schedule. I don’t know what day it is.
The regular life depends on rigor. Moving forward, getting things done.
For a week, I jettison all that.
Rest comes easy when the whole world goes quiet.
Then I go quiet, too.
