It’s been a slow start to 2023. It turns out that going to Italy right after the New Year doesn’t lead to extraordinary work productivity. That’s not to say I have regrets, but rather that I’m only getting back into the groove after facing down some serious jet lag and a case of “what in the world am I supposed to be doing again?”
Another reason for my slow start on work? I’m training for a half-marathon.
It’s only the third week of training, and it’s going fine, well even, but it means that I’m extra tired from the steady increase in mileage. I’ve always been a regular runner, so the running isn’t unfamiliar, but the amount of time I’m running is all new.
Not to mention the conditions. Some days I have to run after dark, and it’s cold here. Tonight it was raining. But the training schedule said I needed to run 3.5 miles, so I did it. As my friend and fitness partner Molly says, “If there’s a checkbox next to something, I legitimately can’t not do it!!!”
A third reason for my slow start? Backlog from 2022. I thought I had “finished” everything at the end of 2022. Nope. There were just enough odds and ends that I’ve found myself filling my days with leftovers.
And so I’m running a bit late to 2023. If you’re running late too, you’re in good company. Welcome!

Great to hear we are in good company. (My year will "officially" begin with the Lunar New Year!)
